Aligning SGA Thresholds with State Minimum Wages

This proposal recommends a reform to the Social Security Administration’s (SSA) Substantial Gainful Activity (SGA) threshold by adjusting it based on each state's minimum wage rather than using a static federal benchmark. By adopting a state-adjusted model, the SSA can reduce regional inequity, remove disincentives to work, and unlock economic potential for people with disabilities. This change would lead to greater financial independence for individuals, a broader tax base, and long-term savings for government systems.
